Dog Ownership
Luttons Parish Council supports and promotes responsible dog ownership to preserve our natural surroundings for everyone to enjoy.
We have therefore put together the below information to help dog owners to recognise their responsibilities.

The following was kindly provided by Brenda Scott;
“In North Yorkshire (including the Malton area), dog fouling on public or designated private land is a criminal offence under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 and local Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) enforced by North Yorkshire Council.
Key aspects of the law regarding private land;
Public Access Land: If the private land is “open to the air” and the public had access to it (e.g. private car parks, footpaths, shared alleyways), the owner/person in charge must remove the dog waste immediately.
Private Gardens: While the Council primarily focuses on public spaces, persistent, large-scale accumulation of dog faeces in a private garden can be treated as a “statutory nuisance” under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.”
